Interesting you mentioned about one of the ears not hearing the low frequencies as well. For me in the ear that was affected I feel like I don't hear the higher frequencies as well. It's not too noticeable but it I compare the 2, the right ear seems to hear more of the high frequencies. Maybe you are right about some of these things being the body's natural response of trying to protect the ears from future loud noises.Connected Isolationnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7396535752851450625.post-47833953540602178962020-06-16T17:17:31.902-05:002020-06-16T17:17:31.902-05:00I used an Echo Pro Pas with paddle attachment for ...I used an Echo Pro Pas with paddle attachment for roughly 10 minutes without earplugs while in quarantine. After that, I was in proximity to someone else using the machine, varying from 20ft to 2ft away for a few minutes. Afterwards, sounds were dulled.<br /><br />Counterintuitively, I didn't go to sleep early when I felt tired; I stayed up watching videos... The rest of the month was staying up late; a good night's sleep would've helped recovery immensely. Tinnitus didn't kick in until the next day before going to bed. Episodes of hyperacusis, tinnitus, dulled hearing, on and off ear thobs and increased thirst before bed and during sleep plagued me for a month. Also, my right sinus would constantly equalise on its own. Interestingly, when I read an article that tinnitus is merely your brain on super alert for the next extremely loud noise, both my ears went into an intense state of aural fullness and the tinnitus ceased. When the fullness began to dissipate, the ringing came back to my left ear. As I went to use the computer, the mere sounds of tapping the keys VERY lightly hurt my ears, yet I persisted. This hyperacusic eventually went away. Near the end of the month, I felt a sunburn sensation in my inner ears, and hearing seemed to return to normal, if only for a moment. First day back at work was hard; normal conversation was much louder than normal, office sounds were too loud. The next day, my right ear automatically popped at work, and sounds were normal again after a morning of earplugs use for slight hyperacusis. I could hear fine with no amplification that afternoon. Ironically, I managed to damage the right ear that very evening while wearing ear defenders at home! I collided with a door and then had them slam on my right ear when I lost my grip putting them on. Tinnitus, which had disappeared mostly that day, came back, as well as a fullness/plugged feeling in both ears. For the first time, popping sounds, like raindrops on bongos, but flat, started in my left ear while laying in bed. The first time, it played a tune, varying tone and pitch. Sunday, I forced popped both ears and behold, the auditory acuteness before the exposure had returned, as well as a low pitched hum/buzz in my right. While showering, the water hitting my backside lower neck and shoulder blade areas made my right sinus equalise constantly and nerves "sing". While making lunch, the volume, which was at pre-exposure levels and not hyperacusis, suddenly quieted down. The right ear seems to have lost the lower tones as I compared both ears when listening to music; is this due to the low pitch hum/buzz? The right ear still has a fullness/plugged feeling, but the automatic right sinus equalisation comes and goes, as well as the crackle of putting pressure in the right ear. The Valsalva trick "inflates" the left properly, but not the right, only slightly. I've tried force popping the ears, but it quickly plugs up again. I have a feeling this is a natural defense in order to let whatever has been damaged, heal. Last night, the raindrop bongo sounds came to my left ear again, only this time there was no song, only a flat raindrop sound that increasingly went up the tone scale, getting higher and quieter. This has not occured in my right ear. While the subtle sinus equalisations are intermittent now, the nose will have a plugged feeling like in a cold, but clears up when certain postures are taken i.e. turning in bed. For the first time, after force popping my ears, the left ear plugged up along with the left sinus last night. At work, there is a definite difference between the left and right ear; the left picks up the full audio picture while the right is only partial. It sucks. I immediately felt ringing, fullness and had a strange echo/muffled distortion to my hearing in both ears. My left ear resolved within an hour and went back to 100% and I've had zero issues since. The right side is a different story. The symptoms have continued with a gradual decline in the echo/muffle and ringing. Went to ENT who put me through the whole show of hearing tests and said my hearing is perfect. Also he said there's no visible fluid or inflammation. He said he can't imagine the echo/muffle to last forever since my hearing is still fine. Now at 10 days out I still have continuous ringing although it's slightly lessened since the incident. The fullness is also nearly completely gone. The echo/muffle has improved slightly but is still there. It's mainly my own voice, louder noises such as the TV and ambient noise in a crowded place that cause the muffled echo. It's almost as if there's fluid in my ear and I'm getting that effect on those certain sounds even though I know there's no fluid. Has anyone had something similar occur? Could the inner ear and/or those tiny bones just be bruised?<br />Really praying this goes away. I appreciate any input y'all have! And now I feel something weird in my ears. I can't explain it. So I'm trying to yawn, chew, and drink water hoping it will go away. Reminds me when I got on an airplane. My thoughts are jumbled... I would recommend the ear plugs when there will be loud noise but you could probably go without them if the environment is not too noisy. I am now suppose...Thanks so much for the response! I am now supposed to see an ENT next week. From what people have written here, I am unsure how much it will help. I do know there is wax buildup in my left ear, which has generally felt worse during this phase, so maybe if they can just get the wax out that will help a bit. And the points about anxiety are of interest also.<br />I think my biggest question is: If I am around noise (not extreme noise-- I'm pretty much past the rock concert stage, but just instruments around the house, music at home w/o headphones etc.) will it actually make this problem WORSE or take longer to go away? Or just cause temporary return of discomfort? I am thinking of this like a sprained ankle-- I know that if you aren't careful during healing phase, you may damage it for life. I am wondering if there is anything similar here-- that is my biggest fear. I also wonder a bit if I am OVER-using the ear plugs sometimes, that my ears also need to learn to get used to regular level noise again. All questions for the ENT I guess!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7396535752851450625.post-35336222560115781182017-12-05T08:58:09.961-06:002017-12-05T08:58:09.961-06:00In case you are more sensitive to noise which can ...In case you are more sensitive to noise which can happen in situations like this, ear plugs might help reduce the discomfort if you have to be around it in the house. Like one of the posters above, I inadvertently exposed myself to a very loud burst of sound briefly while wearing headphones (thankfully not the ear-bud kind). Had ear pain for two days that then subsided for two weeks. It then came back when I played the soprano recorder with my son. We are actually in a recorder orchestra together, and he plays two other instruments at home so staying away from loud sounds has been a challenge. Now in this second phase I am having some tinnitus too. My actual hearing seems fine. My questions are: 1) Does it make sense to wear earplugs while recovering from this if I have to be around music? No headphones obviously, but just if I am in the room with others playing an instrument? 2) Did you find high-pitched noises were more painful? Mostly we play the tenor recorder (fortunately), but the soprano seems particularly to cause the ear pain. In general, I am very glad there is a chance this could gradually improve! But did you avoid all music for awhile? That would be a challenge in our house...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7396535752851450625.post-75562926816437323622017-10-12T00:49:02.395-05:002017-10-12T00:49:02.395-05:00I bought a vitamixer and after using it my right e...I bought a vitamixer and after using it my right ear had pain in it right away. I have had a very similar experience. I was trying to comfort my 3-month old baby last week, so was holding his face very close to mine as he cried and at some points screamed very loudly for at least an hour (his scream is very high-pitched and piercing). For the first two days afterwards I felt mild pain on-and-off in my ears, and felt very sensitive to other loud noises, such as my three-year old daughter shouting, and the blender going. On day 3, I started to experience blocked/ full ears when I went outside, and one ear has now been permanently blocked for two days. My ears do feel slightly better today, or perhaps I am just getting used to the feeling and am less concerned since I read your blog. I've been to see an ENT doctor who could see no damage or signs of trauma and did a hearing test which was all fine. So it sounds like I just need to wait it out, and try to put it out of my mind. Many thanks for the blog.
