Thoughts on Lifespan and Way of Living

When thinking about life, I had always thought that things should be good towards the end or at least not bad. Life is hard as it is so it seems like when you have made it to the end of a long life, you should be able to take it easy and enjoy it. Unfortunately it seems this is often not the case.

Recently I have had 2 grandparents pass away. One became ill and struggled for about a year and half before shoe passed away. The other was very depressed at the end of his life. It got me thinking about lifespan and how things can tend to go down hill towards the end of life.

I may have written about this concept before, about how there are 2 ways to live. One is to live a risky lifestyle that may be more fun, but may be dangerous or harmful to you in the long run resulting in a short life. The other is to live a safe and conservative lifestyle which may not be as fun but will most likely result in a longer life.

I have always believed that the 2nd choice was the way to go, to have the longer life, but after seeing examples first hand of how the end of life is not that great for those who have lived a long time, it makes you question if that style of living is actually better, or if it is better to live a more fun but shorter life.

One thing is for sure, it is important to have something to look forward to. As people get older, they may not be able to do all the things they would like to do because of physical limitation and old age. Also the people they know will begin to pass away as they get older. You can see how it would be easy to get depressed in this situation when you feel like you have nothing to do or no reason to go about each day. This is why it is important to stay motivated and have things to do and look forward to each day.

There is a lot to think about when it comes to life especially such as what happens after one dies. No one really knows for sure if it is the end or if there is some kind of afterlife. Of course there are many different beliefs. I would like to think there is some kind of afterlife that your spirit goes on to after you die but for the time being, we must make the most of our time here and try to enjoy and appreciate each day.
