Comedy Shows Update: Office, Parks and Rec, Big Bang, and Rules of Engagement

So last night was the final episode of The Office with Michael Scott. I found it to be very emotional and sad. I never realized how much I cared for these characters. On the surface it looks like a very silly show, but there is true feeling behind it. I got teary eyed at 3 different parts: Dwight reading the letter of recommendation from Michael, Jim talking to Michael and realizing he is leaving that day, and the end when the plane leaves Scranton. I am really going to miss Michael. Not sure how good the show will be without him. The previews did show some big name guest stars coming up, but no one can ever replace the best boss in the world.

Parks and Recreation is quickly becoming one of my favorite comedies on TV. It is very funny and has a lot of good characters. Just a note, in a previous blog I mentioned that I didn't like Rashida Jones' character but I retract that statement.

Big Bang Theory is really letting me down this season. The earlier seasons were great, but for some reason, it has lost it's funniness this past season. I don't think I even smiled let alone laughed at last nights episode. Get rid of Raj's sister, she is not funny. Walowits and Raj weren't even in the episode last night. Bring it back to the main characters and make sure Sheldon is a major part of every episode.

Rules of Engagement is still holding strong week by week.

Smallville Series Finale and My Experience Watching the Show

One Saturday afternoon some years back I flipped onto some show I had never seen before. It was an action scene of a nice looking young woman running away from some helicopters that were chasing her. That girl was Lois Lane and the show was Smallville. I enjoyed the episode and soon was hooked on the show. It turns out this was a season 4 re-run. The current season was season 6 airing on Thursdays. I felt compelled to know everything about this show, Clark Kent, and his relationship with the other characters.

I soon got the DVDs starting at season 1 to catch up. I bought 1-5 so I could catch up to the current season. Then for the next few years I watched every episode. Now it is nearing the 10th and final season. While the show has trailed off in quality since the end of season 5 in my opinion, I have stuck with it til the end. There are only a couple of episodes left until the 2 hour series finale.

If you have ever watched the show or have any interest in superman or superheros, you don't want to miss it. I don't have huge expectation based on the last few seasons, but then again, it is the end so you know they are going to pull out all the stops. All the money is going in and nothing should be left out. Hopefully it will leave the fans satisfied. It will be sad to see the end of this series, but the time has come and all good things must come to an end.

Random Blog - Lots of Stuff

I keep having ideas of things to write about, but little ideas that might not make a full blog post, so I thought I would gather them up into one blog and see how it goes.

Thursday is the end of an era as Michael Scott will be leaving The Office. I'm not sure why he is leaving before the show ends, or why they are going to keep it going without him. Yes the show has a lot of great characters, but Michael is the nucleus. I have said it before and I will say it again, Michael Scott IS the office. He will surely be missed.

Overplayed commercials. Don't you hate those? NBC's The Voice promos and and Xfinity's commercial with that lady from Glee, I'm looking at you. Nothing makes me not want to support a product more than having to sit their commercial 1000 times. I'm not signing back up for Comcast any time soon and I already hate The Voice and I haven't even seen it yet. I'm guessing they want to make it like American Idol, but let the show speak for itself, not the commercials.

Skin care product review. I recently tried out a face wash from St. Ives. It was an apricot exfoliating kind of wash. It had some good review so I thought I would check it out. I was disappointed. It has like these grains in it so it feels like you are rubbing sand on your face. Not good. Then the sand is hard to wash off. I tried it for 2 days and my face was worse than it has been in a long time. I'm going back to washing my face with my Suave 2 in 1 shampoo. It's not too expensive and it works good.

Kohls Rocks!. Kohls is my favorite place to buy clothes. The atmosphere is comfortable, the selection is good and the prices are great. I got a $10 off coupon in the mail. Usually when you get coupons like this, you have to spend $50 to get the discount, but for Kohls, you just have to spend over the amount to get the deal. I found a polo shirt for $11.99. When they rang it up, it was $9.99. I gave the cashier the $10 coupon and it was free! They must be losing some money with these kinds of coupons, but then again, they will get customers such as myself who will come back and get more clothes there. And guess what just came in the mail today? A $10 off coupon for JCPenny! I'll be swinging by there next week.

Random vocab word - Gruntled. You've heard of disgruntled, it means like upset or angry, but did you know without the "dis" it actually means happy? If you are happy, you are gruntled. Doesn't seem like it does it?

This draft looks long and I don't want it to be too much to read so until next time.

Narrative Comedy and Happy Alone

A couple video recommendations for you. The first one is a video of woman named Julia Sweeney explaining how she has to talk to her daughter about sex and how babies are made. It is quite funny and something I'm sure parents and just about anyone can relate to and appreciate.

Here is a more serious and beautiful video which is a poem and song by Tanya Davis. It is about how society makes us think it is not ok to be alone, when in fact it is ok. If you have ever felt lonely or uncomfortable about being by yourself in any part of life, this video is very inspirational.

Beats Headphones and Trends

Trends are inevitable, especially among kids and teens. Everyone wants to have what is cool at the moment whether it be a brand of clothes or a must have toy. I observe these trends in the high school I work at. The latest trend is the Dr. Dre Beats headphones.

These are the over the ear headphones with the "b: logo on them that have become popular. Before this, everyone had the white iPod earbuds. Now everyone is getting the Beats. I have a little problem with this.

While I don't mind people wanting to buy decent headphones to listen to their music, it does bother me that people are buying these just because they see other people wearing them. Over the ear headphones have been around for a long time. Famous brands include Sennheiser, Grado, and AKG. Those that were really into music would have a pair like these.

So now kids are all going out and getting these Beats headphones, spending big bucks, when they could be getting quality name brand headphones for a fraction of the price. It's unfortunate that a new brand comes in and takes over the entire product category with and image.

Anyway, trends will always exist and people will continue to buy into them. As I say, don't follow the trends, set the trends!

Memes!

I love memes. In case you don't know what they are, they are basically jokes or images that get popular on the internet and spread and mutate as everyone puts their own spin on it. There is a cool site called Quickmeme that has a bunch of the most popular ones and it lets you easily create your own. I made a few here:

Fake Looking People Blog

Did you know many people you see on the streets are not as good looking as they appear? It is amazing what make up, hair color, and wardrobe manipulation can do to change someone's appearance. This is not as common with men as it is with women. I recently discovered this from some videos posted by Jenna Mourey aka JennaMarbles. She is a Youtube vloger I follow. She is very funny and makes great videos so check her out when you get a chance.

Anyway, here are the 2 videos she posted. The 1st one is a tutorial for women on how to make breasts look bigger. I had no idea all these things could be done and how much effect it actually has on the overall look. Makes you realize that everything you see out there is not always as it seems.

This next one is a makeup tutorial. She uses about 10 different products just for makeup. You can see the before and after transformation to see how much makeup can change one's appearance. It is amazing. It makes me think just about anyone out there can look like a model if they have the right makeup, and stylist. See the process for your self here:

Art Appreciation: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The turtles were a good part of my childhood. I also like artwork of comics and superheros. So when I found these pieces of art I was excited and thought I would share them. The Artist is Dave Rapoza and here are some of his pictures. Check out his blog here to see more: http://daverapoza.blogspot.com/

Funny Voice Over Re-Dub Parodies - Day Job Orchestra

I just found a great channel on Youtube called dayjoborchestra. They make voice over parodies of well known shows and public figures. The out come is hilarious. These are some of the best re-dub videos I have ever seen. The dubbing is very accurate and the lines are quote worthy. I have laughed out loud on just about every one I have watched. I still have a lot to watch, but here are some I recommend so far:

Star Trek:

Bush:

Obama:
