Subwoofers Should Be Banned – Loud Music Imposing On Other People

One thing that really bothers me is when people blast music with subwoofers when they are near or around other people. Examples of this could be someone living in an apartment building playing their music loud when they have neighbors right nearby or it could be someone in a car with subwoofers that is playing their music loud when they are next to other cars or in a residential area.

The thing about subwoofers is they create a low frequency of noise that carries easily and is hard to block out. This is why you can often hear the thumping of someone's subwoofer when you can't hear the rest of the music. Even with ear plugs or ear protection it can be hard to block the bass from subwoofers.

For the person listening to the music it sounds good because they want to hear it and it goes with their music, but for everyone else that does not want to listen to their music, it is nothing but an annoyance. Having some random subwoofer thumping can be very bothersome and even stressful when you are just trying to live your life with some peace and quiet. It can even be a problem if you are trying to listen to something else such as your own tv or music.

This is why I think there should be a ban or at least some restriction on subwoofers. People should not have to be subjected to the music of other people especially when they are in their own home. Blasting loud music with a subwoofer around other people is incredibly inconsiderate. The only times I would say it is ok to play loud music with a subwoofer would be in a concert setting or in a location that is far enough away from others or insulated enough so that is does not bother other people.

At this point it would be pretty hard to ban subwoofers altogether, but I think there could definitely be more strict laws in regards to them. Maybe something like subwoofers are not to be used in a location when they impose on other people. Or maybe a limit on the decibel level of retail subwoofers that are sold to the public.

I know there are laws about disturbing the peace but I can image this kind of thing is low on the priority list for law enforcement when there are other more serious issues going on. Nonetheless I think there needs to be more regulation when it comes to loud music and subwoofers that impose on other people.

What are your thoughts on this issue? Are you bothered by subwoofers or should people be able to play their music as loud as they want? Feel free to leave a comment below.

  1. Subwoofers, resonator exhausts, most high-rpm motorcycle exhausts, most of the lawn equipment used for maintaining the imported hybridized Scottish turf people feel obligated to grow around their house are all examples of useless evil shit.
Any person should be empowered, and all public servants charged with the duty of accessing any vehicle or property containing one of these devices, and jamming an ice pick repeatedly or hammering the device to a point of inoperability.
Any government that does not enforce this should be considered illegitimate.

    1. And BTW A Subwoofer when made right and used right is a wonderful device that enhances and bring richness and fullness to music.

  2. Our society is descending into chaos in all areas and this is a prime example of the decline. Many young people today have no respect or consideration for others because they were never taught by their parents. It is a condition of a self centered "ME" generation that thinks only about itself and no one else, so disturbing the peace with these loud and disruptive subwoofers is only indicative of the kind of people that they are, careless and inconsiderate for anyone but themselves.

    1. Even responsible owners of subwoofers who are considerate who do not disturb should have their shit confiscated right ? Wrong. I could see confiscating people's shit who make an annoyance.

  3. I agree wholeheartedly. It is pretty much impossible to mask or block out these low frequency sounds. I've had recurring problems with neighbors who sit in their cars after 10 PM, and wake me up on work nights, resulting in having to try to be productive at work on 4 hours or less of sleep.

    1. YOU ARE CORRECT!!! I have not stayed in my home since December 2nd, 2023. 7 dBc's pops my ear drums, makes me nauseous, headaches, my dog is agitated and goes after the cats. It's been on 24/7 now since December 2nd, the night before I could not take it anymore. I come over my son's to get away, and a dude is blaring his crap over here right now. We should not be forced to hear it, it causes reversed health reactions such as my new onset conditions.

  4. If you're a music enthusiast and want the best experience while driving, then this is an essential addition to your car. (intitle:designer watches add comment Subscribe to: Post Comments Atom)

    1. Music enthusiast. Ha! "Listen to me try and justify what a stinking nuisance I am" Nobody wants to hear your garbage noise. But keep on pissing people off. What could go wrong?

  5. If it's possible to use them without disturbing others than I have no problem. But they seem to be favoured by those who get off on annoying people as much as possible. I don't want to hear, let alone feel, someone else's shit music. It's enough to drive people to suicide

  6. I can't believe people are actually starting to talk about this, and I couldn't be more thankful. I think it is asinine that subwoofers are legal in any residential areas. And I'm not even someone who dislikes music with bass. I know it sounds good! But with subwoofers the problem is the bass travels quite far and it only sounds like deep low frequency garbage vibrations when away from the speakers. There are no panels that absorb the sound well regardless of whether the panels are set up in the room with these speakers or the units being disturbed. And these vibrations with loud thumping noises are impossible to muffle, quite literally nothing helps against them. Ear plugs, headphones, white noise machines, noise-cancelling headphones, earplugs WITH noise-cancelling headphones (trust me I have tried many ideas; none work). If you have the bad luck of ending up next to neighbors with subwoofers, I truly feel for you. Some neighbors might be nice and will consider your requests when you ask but most seem to have such narcissistic attitudes, it's always their party that matters, their enjoyment, their SoundCloud music careers. They never think of whether a neighbor has an appointment to keep early morning tomorrow, whether a neighbor has small children that need quiet sleeping environment, whether they have work early tomorrow, whether they need a quiet study environment, whether they are night shift workers that need a reasonable level of sound in their environment during daytime, etc. The laws surrounding noise pollution is too lax in my opinion. We need the policies on "disturbance of peace" reevaluated. I personally think there's no solution to subwoofers other than banning their use anywhere within a certain distance of residential places. Some apartments do not allow sound systems in their contract but do absolutely nothing to enforce it. Obviously by now we know the police is of no use as this is low priority in their book, unless you live in wealthy residentials. We need stricter policies and most importantly to ban subwoofers in and near residential areas.

  7. Agreed. There is no reason for this kind of equipment to be used in a residential area. It should be for concert venues only.

    1. I had a neighbor next door who's dad died in the apartment and he had to move out. The new neighbors play subwoofer rap so loud it makes my family and I head's actually ache! I tried talking nicely about it and it didn't work.Should I gripe to the apartment manager? Maybe the cops?

Absolutely. I would talk to the management and let them know. They should be able to give a warning to the resident. If it continues, you can file a noise complaint with the police. You should not have to deal with that noise in your own home.

  8. Subwoofers are a curse. I cannot believe that the misery suffered in residential areas because of these things is not taken seriously. I live in a terraced house and have the neighbours sub booming through the party wall. If you cannot have peace in your own home, what hope is there for people to rest and recover from stress.

  9. Hi I have a neighbor who is a nightmare now he's started playing loud bass but I have managed to block it out using two lectro fans one on brown noise which is a low frequency and one with white noise I'm so thankful I found the solution there 85 decibels the highest I think on the marketm
